Academic CV

Leon Thiel is a PhD candidate at the International Research Training Group “Belongings: Jewish Material Culture in Twentieth-Century Europe and Beyond” and an associate researcher in the “Knowledge” research department at the Dubnow Institute. From 2021 to 2023, he worked as a student research assistant at the Dubnow Institute. He studied Cultural Studies and Philosophy at Leipzig University and Tallinn University in Estonia; received his B.A. in Cultural Studies in 2020; and pursued an M.A. in Cultural Studies at Leipzig University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Research Interests

His research interests include twentieth-century European Jewish history, exile and migration studies, questions of cultural and knowledge transfer in Jewish history as well as questions of material culture studies.
