As part of the BORDER IMAGES – IMAGE BORDERS exhibition at the 48 Stunden festival in Neukölln, Belongings’ doctoral researcher Noa Miro presents an installation that accompanies her publication in the Grenzbilder – Bildergrenzen working paper series of the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).

The essay and installation focus on a single postcard sent from Tel Aviv to London in the early 1960s, now part of David Pearlman’s Holy Land postcard collection at the Folklore Research Center at the Hebrew University.

Published by the Israeli company Palphot, the postcard depicts the “urban line” that divided Jerusalem between Jordan and Israel from 1948 to 1967, as well as the No Man’s Land between them. The postcard image and text prompt questions about how the border’s tangibility and everyday experience are mediated, performed, and reconstructed through postcarding practice.
